About Us

HorseSports is located at Unit 2 84 Spartan Road, Takanini, Auckland.  With close proximity to the Southern Motorway interchange and plenty of easy off street parking ( with room for horsetrucks and floats) horsesports is an ideal location.

HorseSports is owned by Miriam de Valk and Chris Barnett who have been involved with horses, riding and actively competing for many years (Eventing, Dressage, Show jumping and Show Hunter). Both Miriam and Chris have been involved in service industries and their aim is for HorseSports to bring a new dimension to the saddlery retail experience.

Miriam de Valk currently competes in ESNZ dressage. Miriam has worked as an Equine Sports Massage therapist since 1998 when she qualified with the NZESMA. Miriam has instructed and judged at many of the South Auckland pony clubs over the years, and is passionate about people developing skills and knowledge relating to their horses welfare.

Chris Barnett has for the past decade been competing in ESNZ Show jumping. Chris is a registered showjump course builder, building for ESNZ shows in the Auckland/Waikato area and also for local pony clubs. Chris has a certificate in Advanced Equine Studies from Waikato Polytechnic as well as being a qualified saddle fitter.

With 55 years combined experience between them (including working at pre-training facilities & stud farms, breeding and starting their own young horses), Miriam and Chris possess a very broad knowledge base of products and are happy to offer some practical advice if requested. However they certainly do not consider themselves "experts" and are not afraid to consult their expansive range of friends and associates to find the correct information. At HorseSports we will not make up information just to sell someone a particular product.

HorseSports is proud of the brands that it carries and wishes to cater for as many equestrian interests as possible and will always be open to suggestions for specialist lines that clients may require. HorseSports offers quality affordable products for everyday riding and horse care, but continue to seek new lines both locally and internationally to offer variety and choice, whilst remembering that not everyone has a high disposable income.
